Engineering Manager - Consumer Banking

San Francisco Engineering Full-time

Blend makes the process of getting a loan simpler, faster, and safer. With its industry-leading digital lending platform, Blend helps financial institutions like Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank increase productivity and deliver exceptional customer experiences. The company processes nearly $2 billion in loans daily, helping millions of consumers get into homes and gain access to the capital they need to lead better lives.

The consumer banking team is at the center of Blend’s efforts to expand beyond mortgage into auto loans, deposit accounts, personal loans, and more. Our customers are looking to us to bring a cohesive modern experience from the moment a user hits their website through credit/decisioning and ultimately integration with back-office systems. We are similarly improving the retail experience via a branch banker solution that replaces multiple legacy tools leading to quicker (and paperless) customer visits.

You’ll support, grow, and advise the software engineers that work for you. You will also collaborate with product, design, and other relevant teams to define and hit key company and engineering goals. This role requires a strong understanding of product given the “startup within a startup” nature of this team. Blend is new to consumer banking and we are effectively partnering with our customers to build.

  • Guide a team of hardworking software engineers to build Blend’s consumer banking platform
  • Partner closely with 3-4 product managers, each responsible for different products within our portfolio.
  • Help engineers grow and meet their career goals, and set the pace for the team
  • Recruit top-tier talent as the team grows
  • Work with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to guide decisions and support Blend’s entrance to this new market

  • 2+ years professional experience managing software developers
  • 5+ years as an engineer working with production software (this is not a coding role but a strong technical background is required)
  • Shown ability to collaborate with other engineering teams and business stakeholders
  • Strong advocacy and communication skills
  • Enjoys working with greenfield projects that have ambiguity and imperfect requirements
  • Strong project management; comfortable running dev sprints etc.
