At Blend, we’re building more than software—we’re building the infrastructure for a better financial future. That’s a huge ambition, and it takes more than vision alone. It takes people who bring curiosity, care, and conviction to everything they do.

This series is about highlighting those people.

You’ll meet team members who are solving real customer problems, challenging assumptions, and pushing past the status quo—not for the sake of speed or scale, but to create meaningful, lasting value for the customers we serve. These stories reflect the spirit of The Blend Way: a shared belief system rooted in deep customer focus, empowered ownership, and the pursuit of continuous improvement.

Today we’re excited to spotlight Ray Lin, a Product Designer who’s been with Blend since 2018. From helping launch our Loan Officer Toolkit to his appreciation for great typography, Ray brings thoughtfulness, curiosity, and care to everything he works on.

What drew you to Blend?

The team here seemed so passionate about solving complex problems that have real-world impact. The opportunity to work on innovative, 0-to-1 initiatives while helping lead the banking industry forward was incredibly compelling. Blend offered the kind of challenge I was looking for—we’re the forerunners in an industry ripe for innovation and everyone I met was aligned with that goal.

What’s something unexpected on your desk right now?

“The Visual History of Type” by Paul McNeil. It’s this massive, encyclopedia-sized hardcover book with beautiful spreads of notable typefaces dating back from the Gutenberg press. I put it on my desk with the intent of reading a typeface a day, but I haven’t quite gotten that far yet!

What’s one of the most meaningful projects you’ve worked on at Blend?

Helping build the Loan Officer Toolkit from the ground up. We were new to the mortgage space, so we spent time in the field with loan officers—learning how they work and figuring out where we could make a difference. That hands-on approach shaped the product in a really powerful way.

What kind of impact has that work had on loan officers?

It’s been incredible to see. Just a few years ago, we had around 10,000 loan officers using our platform. Today, that number is close to 100,000. We’ve gone from manual, time-consuming processes to empowering LOs with automation and intelligent workflows—and it’s changing how they work day to day.

Which of Blend’s values stands out most to you?

Customer focus and innovation—hands down. Every financial institution we work with has different needs, workflows, and compliance requirements. It’s rewarding to find ways to innovate within those constraints and still deliver technology that helps them operate more efficiently and better serve their customers.
